Creative Business Management

Masters Degree Program

The multidisciplinary Creative Business Management (CBM) Master's programme concentrating on the management of creative processes and creative fields of business is a two-year degree programme jointly implemented by the Pori Unit of the Turku School of Economics and the Art and Media Pori Unit of the University of Art and Design Helsinki. Students may apply to the Master's programme to take a Master's degree either in economics or art. The development of the Master's programme is a key part of the tasks set for the CL project.

The key themes of the studies are management of multi-disciplinary expertise, development of product and service concepts, visual culture, understanding art and media and identifying the special characteristics of creative fields, as well as the study of business. Graduates of the CBM Master's programme can make use of the skills developed in the course, both in creative fields and in more traditional service sectors and industry, for example in jobs connected with product development, media production, design, marketing and HR management, not to mention as an entrepreneur. A career as a researcher is also a possibility.

The first selection of students for the CBM Master's programme will take place in spring 2009 and the course will commence in autumn 2009.

Industry Project

Students implement planning works or projects related to the creative economy. Students gain competence in working in multidisciplinary teams. Projects are implemented in close cooperation with regional companies, thus students have an opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and develop their problem solving and interaction skills. Companies have a great opportunity to utilise students´ know-how in carrying out projects and also to get to know students with innovative qualities for possible future co-operation.

The projects deal with such topics as new product concepts, the analysis of markets, customer feedback, the examination of corporate identity and image, media, design or design management.

Projects are completed by multidisciplinary teams of 3-5 students. Students can complete projects for both private and public sector organisations.
